Cargo Bike Subsidy — Save up to 200,000 ISK

The Climate and Energy Fund (Loftslags- og orkusjóður) provides subsidies for cargo bike purchases. Both Tenways Longtail DUO and Tenways Cargo One are on the fund's pre-approved bike list, which makes the application process simple and fast.

What you get

  • 33% of the purchase price (including VAT)
  • Maximum 200,000 ISK per bike
  • One subsidy per bike, one subsidy per person

  • Anyone with an Icelandic kennitala (national ID number)
  • For bikes purchased on or after 1 January 2025
  • One subsidy per person, one per bike

Step by step

  1. Buy the bike from us. Your t2.is invoice includes the bike's serial number — that's all you need from the seller.
  2. Take two photos. One of the bike, and one that clearly shows the serial number (usually on the frame).
  3. Apply at umsoknir.orkusjodur.is. The application form is in Icelandic.
  4. Submit the documentation:
    • Link to the product page (we'll send you the correct link)
    • The two photos of the bike and serial number
    • The invoice with the serial number

We'll help you through the process

After your purchase we send you an email with everything you need for the application — a link to the product page, the serial number, and a digital invoice. You then complete the application yourself at umsoknir.orkusjodur.is — it takes about 10 minutes. The form is in Icelandic; if you'd like help working through it, just ask.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply after I've bought the bike?

Yes. The subsidy applies to bikes purchased on or after 1 January 2025. You can apply retroactively.

Can a couple get two subsidies if they buy two bikes?

Yes — each person receives one subsidy, and each bike receives one. If two people in a family each buy their own bike, both can apply individually in their own name.

When do I receive the money?

After the Climate and Energy Fund has approved your application. Processing time is determined by the fund.

Are there any deadlines for the subsidy?

No official end date has been announced. The subsidy is still active.

Can I choose a different bike that isn't on the pre-approved list?

Yes, but you'll also need to submit details about load capacity and motor/battery, and the fund will assess whether the bike meets the criteria. The Tenways bikes we sell are already pre-approved, so you can skip that step.

What bikes qualify in general?

Bikes specifically designed for cargo or passenger transport, with at least 175 kg load capacity, and with an electric motor that doesn't exceed 250 W or 25 km/h (electric assistance is not required).
